Eleven companies shortlisted for the CSRD Awards 2025
AMSTERDAM, 17 Oct 2025 – The organisers of the second edition of the CSRD Awards, Impact Economy Foundation (IEF), Van der Molen E.I.S., Impact Institute and Duurzaam Gebouwd, announced the eleven companies that have been selected for the shortlist of the CSRD Awards 2025. The selection was made based on a methodology developed by Impact Institute, the knowledge institute in the field of impact measurement.
Companies had until 1 September 2025 to apply for the awards via http://www.csrdawards.nl with their report report on the 2024 financial year. In total, there were 57 participants, roughly divided between companies that are already required to report under the CSRD, companies that will have to do so a later year, and companies for which sustainability reporting is purely voluntary. A professional will come together to discuss and determine the winners of the Awards. Together with the organisers, they are delighted with the large number of participants. “Despite the limited scope of European transparency legislation, these companies have the courage to step up and commit to comprehensive accountability for their sustainability activities”, says jury chair Dick de Waard, Professor Emeritus Auditing at the Department of Accounting and Auditing at the University of Groningen. The awards will be presented to the two winners during the almost sold-out CSRD DAY 2025 conference on 27 November 2025.
The following companies have been selected for the shortlist:
Large companies
AkzoNobel
de Volksbank
Dura Vermeer
FrieslandCampina
Fugro
Heijmans
Heineken
Stedin
SMEs and other companies
Daiwa House Modular Europe
Schijvens Corporate Fashion
Sunrock
On 28 November 2023, the ‘Kristalprijs’ for the best sustainability report was presented for the last time. This brought an end to a rich history that began in 1995, where the ‘Kristalprijs’ honoured reporting companies for their efforts and highlighted best practices. Van der Molen E.I.S. and Impact Institute/Impact Economy Foundation have continued the tradition with these Dutch CSRD Awards. In 2024, Philips and Schijvens Corporate Fashion were announced as the winners of the first edition of these prestigious awards.
Impact Institute reviewed the reports and motivation letters of the 57 entries. These were then assessed against 10 jury criteria*. The jury also considered whether the company uses sustainability reporting in a transformative way and is taking steps to become more sustainable, as well as the social impact it creates. The shortlist was drawn up based on these findings. Reinier de Adelhart Toorop, Head of Research at Impact Institute: “We have compiled a very diverse shortlist with companies from all kinds of sectors and of different sizes. They all excel in very different areas in their sustainability reporting. This gives the jury a real choice.”
*The jury criteria and details of the methodology can be found on http://www.csrdawards.nl
The expert jury consists of:
• Teresa Fogelberg, former Deputy Chief Executive of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and former chair of the Expert Panel of the National Transparency Benchmark
• Marleen Janssen Groesbeek, Lecturer in Sustainable Finance and Accounting at Avans Hogeschool
• René Orij, Professor of Sustainability Reporting at Nyenrode Business University
• Dick de Waard (chair), Emeritus Professor of Auditing at the University of Groningen
The awards are supported by the NBA, SRA, UN Global Compact Network Netherlands, VBDO, VVM network of environmental professionals and Eumedion.
CSRD DAY 2025
On 27 November 2025, the second edition of the CSRD DAY sustainability conference takes place, an initiative of Impact Institute, Van der Molen E.I.S. and Duurzaam Gebouwd. An inspiring programme is presented with speakers such as Merei Wagenaar (Executive Director UN Global Compact Network Netherlands), Heleen Herbert (Director of Strategy/CCO Heijmans), Fou-Khan Tsang (Chair of the Board of Directors aaff), Michel Scholte (Co-founder & CCO of Impact Institute and True Price), Anna Pot (Netherlands National Coordinator UN SDGs) and Ankie van Wersch (Director MVO Nederland).
This year has seen many developments around the CSRD, including the European Commission’s Omnibus proposal. It is also 25 years since corporate social responsibility was put on the map in the Netherlands with, among other things, the publication of the SER advisory report “De winst van waarden” (The profit of values) in December 2000. ‘Encouraging’ companies was the credo at the time. Earlier that year (June 2000), the revised OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and the first Sustainability Reporting Guidelines from the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) were also published. Both were widely adopted in the Netherlands.
There will be 17 organisations presenting themselves with a stand at the CSRD Marketplace on the CSRD DAY. There are also 17 practical deep-dive sessions organised by the many partners associated with the conference. As was the case last year, there is a lot of interest in the conference and it is now almost fully booked with over 400 participants.
