Impact Investor Email Series

The impact investment lifecycle, one real case a week.

Most impact strategies look fine on paper. This series covers what happens next: turning strategy into the decisions, portfolios and reporting that hold up when an LP looks closely. One lifecycle stage a week, each built on real client work.

Why read it

Built on more than a decade of client work

The hardest part of impact investing is rarely the intention. It is putting that intention into practice: judging whether a deal qualifies, measuring a portfolio consistently, and producing reporting that holds up when an LP reads it closely. This series follows that work across the lifecycle, one stage a week, drawn from our engagements with funds such as ABN AMRO, Triodos and Vendis Capital.

Real client work: Each email is built around a single client engagement: the problem the fund faced, what we did, and the result. The frameworks appear alongside the work that produced them, not in the abstract.

Decision-level questions: Each email ends with a few questions you can put to your own approach, at the level where investment decisions are made. They show where it holds up and where it needs more work.

Proof you can check: Every claim rests on a named framework, a figure reported with its method, or a case you can examine. Where a figure depends on an assumption, we say so.

What lands in your inbox

Four weeks, four stages of the lifecycle

The series runs over four weeks and follows the investment lifecycle in order: strategy, screening and due diligence, portfolio, and reporting. Each stage builds on the one before, so the emails move from strategy through to reporting in the sequence the work happens.

Welcome to the lifecycle

What the four weeks cover and how to read them: the weekly schedule, what each email gives you, and why it helps to read the stages as a whole.

Week 1

From intention to strategy

Where impact strategies tend to break, and the three questions a serious LP will ask. How a strategy becomes something an investment team can use day to day.

Case: Impactable Group

Week 2

From strategy to decisions

What a credible impact scan involves, and where due diligence often falls short. How to measure impact early without slowing the deal.

Case: Vendis Capital

Week 3

From investment to portfolio

How to measure impact across a portfolio rather than deal by deal, by writing it into the transaction terms and then measuring it on consistent metrics.

Case: ABN AMRO Sustainable Impact Fund

Week 4

From measurement to reporting

How to produce impact reporting an LP can scrutinise, and how reporting can strengthen your fundraising rather than sit as a year-end task.

Case: Triodos

Written for people working in impact investing, at any level of experience: asset owners, fund managers in private equity and venture, foundations and endowments, family offices, development finance institutions, and angel and high-net-worth investors.
