Impact Institute joined the TNFD Forum and the nature-related data catalyst

Impact Institute is thrilled to announce that we have been accepted by the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) to become a member of its global Forum, as well as to join the recently launched Nature-related Data Catalyst.

Impact Institute is now a member of the TNFD Forum. The TNFD Forum is a global multi-disciplinary consultative group of institutional supporters sharing the ambitious vision and mission of the TNFD that are willing to contribute to the development of a nature-related risk management and disclosure framework.

As a global sustainability and impact data provider, Impact Institute have been accepted to participate to the newly launched Nature-related Data Catalyst, which brings together key actors in the sustainability data landscape. The Catalyst aims to respond to market demand for high-quality, trusted, decision-useful information and data on nature-related risks and opportunities

By joining the Forum and the leading market participants already in it, we aim to use our ten years of experience and technical expertise in the field of impact measurement to support the Taskforce in the co-creation and delivery of a reliable and comprehensive risk framework.

Nature loss is an important topic because it poses both risks and opportunities for organisations. Recent research finds that more than half of the world’s economic output – US$44 trillion of economic value generation – is moderately or highly dependent on nature (WEF and PwC 2020). However, financial institutions and corporations can lack the tools and knowledge needed to understand how their investments and activities affect nature and, in turn, are exposed to long-term financial risks resulting from its loss. The TNFD, building upon the structure and foundation of the TCFD, aims to promote the adoption of an integrated risk management and disclosure framework that aggregates the best standards, data, and tools to inform better corporate and investment decision making.

GID and how it is aligned with TNFD:

Our Global Impact Database (GID) helps organisations with metrics and data that can help to identify and report on nature-related risks and opportunities and be used to set impact improvement targets and measure performance against these targets in alignment with TNFD. Our natural capital, biodiversity and ecosystem services impact data allows users to measure portfolio impact when data availability is limited, and provides a framework that can integrate additional location-specific data points if available.

About the TNFD

The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) is a global, market-led initiative, designed with the mission to develop and deliver a risk management and disclosure framework for organizations to report and act on evolving nature-related risks, with the aim of supporting a shift in global financial flows away from nature-negative outcomes and toward nature-positive outcomes. The TNFD Forum is intended to support the work of the Taskforce by providing access to a global, multi-disciplinary pool of technical expertise and practical experience on which the Taskforce can draw to develop the framework.
